AI Girlfriend Paradox: Actual users are more likely to call it cheating

A 2026 survey of 1,709 U.S. adults found that over half consider AI romantic relationships cheating, with current AI companion users more likely to view it as cheating. Loneliness drives most AI companion use, and users are nearly evenly split by gender.
