Airbnb Cuts Recommendation Staleness from 2 Days to Seconds with Chronon

Airbnb enhanced its Chronon platform with Push Mode and Near Real Time Model Transform, reducing recommendation embedding staleness from two days to seconds. This update improved offline ranking metrics by 1.67% and increased uncancelled bookings by about 0.33%. The system now updates embeddings within 10 to 30 seconds by streaming guest activity and running the Transformer encoder in near real time.
