California has enacted a law banning personalized content feeds and autoplay for users under 16, alongside new safety regulations for companion chatbots including crisis protocols and audits. This law, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on September 10, goes beyond existing measures in Australia and the EU's Digital Services Act by mandating a complete ban rather than an opt-out option.
