Researchers developed ETSAM, a fine-tuned AI method based on Segment Anything Model 2, to accurately segment cell membranes in cryo-electron tomograms despite noise and artifacts. Trained on diverse experimental and simulated data, ETSAM outperforms other deep learning methods in sensitivity and precision on test tomograms.
