Europe must build own AI or risk getting cut off by US or China, says ECB’s Lagarde

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde urged Europe to develop its own AI technology and expand domestic datacentres to avoid dependence on the US and China, which currently dominate AI model production and computing capacity. She warned that reliance on foreign AI could threaten Europe's economic autonomy and values, while rapid AI adoption could boost productivity significantly.
