Google’s AI search is rapidly becoming the default, new data shows

Google's AI-generated search answers, called AI Overviews, have grown from 15% to 43% of searches in one year, changing how users find information and increasing time spent on Google. AI Mode visits also more than doubled, while publishers face declining referral traffic due to AI citations that often don't lead to clicks. The rise of AI citations has increased fivefold, but only a small fraction of ChatGPT queries include citations.
