New Orleans is using AI to triage 911 calls in case of backlog

New Orleans' Orleans Parish Communication District uses an AI agent to answer some 911 calls for motor vehicle accidents when human operators are busy and the caller is near a reported crash. During the January 1, 2025 Bourbon Street terrorist attack, the AI initially misclassified the incident as a hit-and-run before routing calls to humans.
