Australia's federal energy minister Chris Bowen confirmed that new national datacentre power laws will not allow special exemptions for Queensland or the Northern Territory to use fossil fuels. States must prove non-renewable energy is cheaper than renewables to get an exemption, with the Australian Energy Regulator making the final decision. The laws aim for 100% renewable energy use backed by firming across all states and territories.
