Nokia and Nvidia have developed the first commercial AI-powered radio access network (AI-RAN) platform, aiming to double network spectral efficiency by 2028. The platform combines Nokia's anyRAN software with Nvidia's Aerial computing platform, allowing operators to upgrade existing base stations with AI capabilities. Pilots start late 2024, with a commercial launch planned for 2027, shifting Nokia's business model toward software subscriptions.
