Speeding up planning decisions with AI

Google DeepMind's AI tool PlanAssist has reduced the time planning officers spend on routine householder applications by 58% in pilot tests across three UK councils. The tool automates document validation, policy checks, and report drafting, allowing officers to focus on complex cases while retaining final decision authority. PlanAssist will expand to 12 more local planning authorities to help speed up planning decisions and support the UK government's housing goals.
