The Flood is Coming And The Pipes Were Already Full

What happened
Athena has gathered more than 40,000 software vulnerability findings since June, with over 500 projects affected. Of these findings, 42% are classified as critical or high severity. Starting September 28, Athena will begin publicly releasing 50 of these findings, focusing on vulnerabilities that have already been fixed in newer versions but remain in older, widely deployed software. Athena is also working with Anthropic's Project Glasswing and is opening up its infrastructure to improve how vulnerabilities are managed and patched.
Key details
- Over 40,000 software vulnerabilities collected by Athena since June
- 42% of findings rated as critical or high severity
- More than 500 software projects impacted
- Public disclosure of 50 vulnerabilities begins September 28
- Athena is collaborating with Anthropic's Project Glasswing and opening its infrastructure
Why it matters
Software maintainers, security teams, and organizations using affected projects will now have access to information about vulnerabilities that were previously unreported, especially in older software versions. This disclosure means they can take action to patch or mitigate these issues, even if official support for older versions is limited. The collaboration with Anthropic and the opening of infrastructure may help streamline vulnerability management and patching processes for a broader range of users.
