Thomson Reuters developed its own AI model, Thomson-1, based on Alibaba's open-source Qwen model, to reduce reliance on Anthropic's Claude and cut costs. Thomson-1 will initially assist with document review and gradually enhance the company's AI legal assistant, CoCounsel.
