UK funds £100m AI biosecurity lab with OpenAI and Anthropic

The UK government is investing £100 million to establish an AI Biosecurity Lab aimed at detecting biological threats and accelerating vaccine development. OpenAI and Anthropic will contribute up to £200 million in AI compute and model credits, with Google DeepMind and Basecamp Research also participating. The lab will operate as an independent non-profit involving multiple UK public health and defense agencies.
