IMAX 15/70 film cameras are notably loud due to their bulky mechanical design and the need to move large strips of film precisely and rapidly, causing a constant mechanical noise during filming. This noise results from the vacuum system that holds each frame flat and the rapid advancement of the film strip, making IMAX filming expensive and challenging compared to digital methods.
