China’s First Fully AI Theatrical Film Flayed Alive at the Box Office

China's first fully AI-generated theatrical film, "Sanxingdui: Future Past," released on October 23, earned only $181,000 at the box office against a $1.5 million budget, despite wide release on over 10,000 screens. The film's poor performance contrasts with the success of a low-budget, hand-made animated film "Niu Lai," which earned nearly $10 million. The AI film's failure highlights challenges in audience acceptance of AI-generated movies.
