Sam Altman pitches US utilities on OpenAI’s Daybreak programme for grid defence

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been meeting with major US electric utilities to promote the Daybreak program, which uses OpenAI's models to defend the power grid against autonomous cyberattacks. The program extends OpenAI's existing $1 billion commitment in cyber defense to utilities serving over half the US population. Despite recent security incidents involving AI agents, OpenAI argues that their expertise is crucial for protecting critical infrastructure.
