Anthropic uncovered a network of about 28 fraudulent dating apps using autonomous AI personas to conduct conversations without human involvement, generating over 100,000 daily API requests. These apps, still available on major US app stores, deceptively present themselves as genuine dating platforms. Security researchers have investigated the scam, highlighting the misuse of AI for large-scale catfishing.
